What is it: Ugglo is a storytelling app that helps pre-schools and schools across Sweden improve their reading and expand their vocabulary. In the app, users will find thousands of stories with narration in various languages. The app can be downloaded on mobile phones but it’s most ideal to download it on iPad or tablets.
How it works: Pre-schools or primary schools in a municipality can request to test Ugglo. If the users are satisfied, the schools can pay the app’s annual license fee. Then Ugglo will issue a username and password that they could use to log in to the app.
From there, the user can select any story from more than a thousand stories available. Ugglo has partnered with different publishing companies such as Natur & Kultur, Bonnier, B. Wahströms/Storytel, Berghs, Idus, Opal and many others.
The stories are primarily in Swedish, but they also have secondary texts in another language. The stories are also narrated by professional voice actors to make the experience enjoyable for its users. The narrators and secondary texts are available in 40 different languages.
Best for: The app is best for Förskoleklass/Pre-schools and Grundskoleutbildning/ Primary schools. Ugglo’s app is only available for educational institutions to purchase.
