What is it: Planta is an app that helps people to take care of their plants. It gives the user information about their plants and the important steps to help it grow. The app can be downloaded for free, and Planta offers premium subscription in their app.
How it works: Planta aims to help its user develop their gardening skills based on their level of knowledge and goals. Initially, the app asks the user at which level of gardening they would see themselves and how much time they would like to invest in taking care of their plants. From then the user can add the places in their home where they have plants. For each site, the user can select different site conditions such as the amount of light the room has, its temperature, humidity, and draft.
Once the sites are selected it would be easier for the user to see what kind of plants are best for these conditions. There are over 600 plants listed on the app. Planta shows the difficulty level of taking care of the plant and if it is suitable for the sites that you have listed on your profile. The app also shows the plant’s care instructions, ideal location, and characteristics.
If a user finds anything wrong with the information on the app, they can also choose to report the mistake.
Best for: Planta is great for plant-enthusiasts and for people who would like to add more plants in their homes or offices but doesn’t really know which plants to get or how to take care of them.
Value Offering: Planta does offer a premium subscription. For premium users they can access a more in-depth care instruction which tells them about watering algorithm, you will also get a fertilizing and misting schedule that is based on each user’s location, light amount and season.
Aside from that, they can also get plant recommendations which can help users find suitable plants for different places – based on their personal skill level. Other features included are the Care Reminders and the Plant Journal.
Hype Level: Planta has just launched 2 months ago but since then they have around 2000 users. They have spent the previous year enriching their plant database. Planta has recently been released in the US and UK.
They are currently working on a new feature called the plant scanner. It will be used to help users identify plants that they might not be sure of what its name is. They also plan to expand their plant data base and include garden plants to their app.
