Traveling around Stockholm could be overwhelming. The schedules tend to change, the metro’s crowded at times and taxis are expensive. But there are three alternate transportations that are not only convenient but it’s also eco-friendly.
Biking is one of the eco-friendliest options you’ll find in Stockholm. It’s a great way for people to explore the city and a great way to exercise. City Bikes are one of the most accessible bike rental services in Stockholm.
The bikes are available from 6:00 to 22:00. Bikes can be used for three hours at a time. If the biker is unable to return the bike to a terminal within 3 hours the biker’s card would be blocked.
To use the City Bikes users would need to buy a bike card. There are two options a seasonal card and a 3-day card, for 300 and 165 respectively. You can purchase these passes online, through the SL offices or through their app. It’s available for both Apple and Android.
Ride the future with Voi. This scooter sharing app allows users to go around Stockholm with an electric scooter. A scooter costs 10 SEK to unlock and 1.5 SEK per minute and payment transactions could be done through their app.
Users can find scooters through the live map on their app but since Voi is in its early stages the scooters are still limited and could be hard to find. There are also no terminals, so users can leave the Voi anywhere for other users to pick up.
Experience riding a pod taxi with Bzzt! These three-wheeled pods run on eco-friendly electricity. Users can hail a taxi pod through the app and it would cost about 30 SEK per kilometer. Passengers can pay for their trip on the app and they will receive a receipt through their emails.
The taxi pod can take a maximum of 2 passengers per trip. Bzzt! prioritizes their passenger’s safety, their taxi pods are equipped with seatbelts and the passengers, as well as their luggage, are insured by Länsförsäkringar.
Drivers are available for passengers from Monday to Thursday from 7:00 to 24:00, and on Fridays you can find Bzzts from 7:00 to 4:00. On Saturdays catch them from 10:00 to 4:00 and on Sundays between 10:00 and 24:00. Bzzt! is available in both the App Store and Google Play.
It’s worth it to try out one of these different sustainable transportation options. You won’t only be able to get where you need to be, but you will also be making a choice to live sustainably.
